My boyfriend always coughs A bit when he is about to go to sleep?

What does it mean when someone coughs when they lay down to go to sleep? For my boyfriend it happens on a nightly basis and I am worried if it may be breathing problems. We are both 17 and he snores in his sleep but I would like to hear some of your opinions on his coughing. Thanks :)
