Need Help with Linear Algebra?

I am taking this differential equations/linear algebra class and I just do not understand the concept of a vector space. The stuff with the 10 axioms and crap. We are moving on to stuff like linearly independent or dependent. I got As on my first two tests but I'm stumped. Can anyone give me some advice?
