Vector Space question?

1u != u because when (u1,u2,u3) has non-zero entries for u1 and u2, which is allowed because u1 and u2 can be any real numbers when we take an arbitrary u in R^3 and the multiplicative identity must hold for all vectors in R^3, (0,0,u3) != (u1,u2,u3).
